A travelling photographer prior to settling in Maitland, Jacob Audet appears in numerous newspaper reports and his business advertising is often distinctive in character.
Audet's life could be described as eventful and he was perhaps Maitland's most spirited and enterprising photographer.
With the establishment of his Skylight Gallery in 1860 he comes second only to Hart in establishing a permanent photography business Maitland.
